Sonixinema - Contemporary Soloists: Cello created to fill the gap in the virtual cello market, Sonixinema - Contemporary Soloists has a surprisingly compelling and intimate sound that is perfect for conveying the modern cinematic sound world heard in the scores of artists such as Jed Kurzel, Hildur Gudnadottir and Johann Johansson. Our custom user interface has been meticulously designed to be intuitive and inspiring, allowing you to distort and shape sound with filters, reverb, distortion and more.
Recording the Contemporary Soloists series is what we've been thinking ever since we started Sonixinema. We see it as the culmination of everything we learned during our sampling, and it truly reflects Sonixinema's ideals and taste. After we got to know Danny and heard him perform, we realized that we had to get together in the studio and start mastering one of our favorite instruments - the cello.
To convey the rich and gentle tone of Danny's 19th century cello, we decided to choose a relatively dry room to get the closest and personal sound we were looking for. Inspired by contemporary film composers such as Jed Kurzel, Hildur Gudnadottir and Johann Johannsson, we wanted to capture not only a very specific sound quality, but also some very specific articulations that we believe represent the musical landscape that is present in many of our favorite voices for movies.
We captured a number of major articulations such as Legato, Sustains, Spiccato, Pizzicato, Tremolo and Col Legno, but what we recorded next really brings the library to life. In collaboration with Danny, we have created a number of unique and inspiring articulations, some of which are not featured in any other sample library. These include Arpeggio Crossings, Warped Sustains, Circular Bowing, Harmonic Falls, Harmonic Wavers, Harmonic Glissando, and Seagull Screeches. These sounds not only work great as aleatoric effects, but they can also be used musically and can be used to create a mesmerizing and dark, soulful atmosphere that enriches the score and brings out a surprisingly raw and realistic sound that is usually unattainable with samples.
